“Some Good Tunes From An Australian” - Gerry Mulligan
Simon has been writing music since 1979, and has penned several hundred jazz compositions encompassing a broad stylistic range. Twelve of these compositions are featured on COLOURS OF SOUND, arranged by Brent Fischer.
A handful of Simon’s early compositions also reside in THE GERRY MULLIGAN COLLECTION, a permanent collection at the US Library of Congress, in a dedicated room that houses music and memorabilia relating to legendary jazz baritone saxist/composer/arranger Gerry Mulligan. Mulligan was impressed with Simon’s compositions during his visit to Australia in 1989, and seven of these pieces are in a folder marked by Mulligan as “Some Good Tunes From An Australian”. These are catalogued in the online Gerry Mulligan Collection archive.
